Values and Outreach

The Sorrells lab values diversity of people, thought, and expertise. Lab members must create a respectful and inclusive environment for their fellow lab mates, and are encouraged to get involved with activities that broaden access to science. A diverse team is necessary to do cutting edge, interdisciplinary science, and to become the scientific leaders of the future.

  • Representation in science

    During graduate school, Trevor co-founded an organization to provide a community and role models for LGBTQ+ graduate students, with an emphasis on intersectional identity. This organization continues to this day. We value contributions to making science a diverse and creative environment.

  • Outreach

    Lab members are encouraged to participate in programs for the public and younger students, especially those with limited access to science and scientists.
